Into the Woods

Yes, the month is almost over, time has completely gotten away from us here at the mushroom times publication desk, but here it is, the much anticipated July newsletter!

June was a phenomenal month for finding wild mushrooms.  Some mushrooms appeared earlier than they usually do in a year due to the heat and rainfall across the Capital Region.  For edible mushrooms, we found Golden Oysters, Chanterelles, and Umbrella polypores, and other fungi friends found Chicken of the Woods, and even Black Trumpets!  One flush of Goldens was easily over 60 pounds located right in an urban backyard!

Our Dinner on the Farm Featuring Chef Dale Hajdasz was a delightful evening.  We occupied the Yellow Rock Cafe right near our Corner Spore space plus the Bottle Shop and Porch.  It was a delicious event!  Chef Dale crafted some yummy plates.  That shiitake mousse with just picked raspberries from the Indian Ladder Farms’ berry patch and pineapple weed sprigs was a show stopper!  Microgreens used throughout the meal were provided by Tiny Garden Microgreens.

Avery taught a wild edible foods class through the Heldeberg Workshop to the Voorheesville 5th graders. 

Voorheesville 5th graders read “My Side of the Mountain” every year then attend workshops about wild crafting.

We love when our friends visit! We ate some pizza up in the pizza garden then showed off our new production space.

We’ve introduced a new mushroom warrior character to our growing cast of fungi friends.  Kawa is a Psilocybe cubensis inspired monk that will be featured on our specialized grow supply products.

We have rolled out our grow supply line.  Stacked grow bags for Dung Loving Mushrooms, Spore Syringes, and Sterilized Rye Grain Bags with Injection ports.  They are available at the Indian Ladder Farm’s Store and at all of our vending locations.

We got a sweet new table cloth for our farmers’ market table.  Come visit us Saturday’s from 9am to 2pm.  We’re also carrying Indian ladder Farms’ sparkling apple cider!  A perfect summer beverage.

The New York Mycological Society hosted a mushroom event featuring a discussion with Ifetayo Harvey (The founder of POC Psychedelic Collective), Eugenia Bone (Author of many books), and Maya Han (NY Mycological Society Cultural Programmer).  This edgy event at Public Records in Brooklyn marks a new phase in NYMS programming where a more open discussion of psilocybin-containing mushrooms are being discussed!

Avery got a chance to entertain guests at the Arts Center of the Capital Region’s gala event.  While planning for the event, Amy and Avery came up with a simple mushroom craft idea that we plan on rolling our at events in the future called Parasol Poetry and Pieces that will include a hand crafted unique mushroom made from envelope scraps and a mushroom poem chosen from a list of fungi poems!

New Customer Alert:  Son of Egg in Rensselaer is now making a Vegan Gluten Free Bulgogi Bowl using our Lion’s Mane as the main bite!  It’s delicious!  They are at 483 Broadway in Rensselaer. Go check them out!

PSILOCYBIN CORNER

June was an incredible month for our advocacy efforts.  The NYS Assembly Health Committee Hearing is being rescheduled in September (Exact date coming soon), The City of Troy Council Members have asked for more information about what a decriminalization referendum would mean, and Avery and Amy were invited to participate in a psilocybin forward event curated by the New York Mycological Society in Brooklyn and Psychedelic Science 2025 happened in Denver from Monday June 16th through Friday June 20th with several of our New Yorkers for Mental Health Alternatives members in attendance and presenting panels!

New Yorkers for Mental Health Alternatives Monthly Meeting, Tuesday, July 8th 7pm – 8pm.  This monthly meeting will focus on planning future downstate actions.
