Wild foods abound in May! Foraged New York’s 4th year was a huge success, we found wild edibles galore, our team expanded, and we did so much more! Read on to see how we spent our month and get a glimpse at what is coming right around the corner.
Foraged New York year 4 spread further afield than ever before. Restaurant tendril partners in Troy, Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Big Indian all served up foods with wild harvested ingredients. The beverage team at Indian Ladder made 2 special edition wild foraged drinks that were launched during our end of festival dinner: Bloom (using Magnolia Blossoms) and Sprucing it up a Bit (using Spruce boughs).
David Chaiken and Corinne Carey crafted a foraged and fungi night to remember served up in the Clear Mountain Room at Indian Ladder Farms. Wild greens salad, Mushroom Dumplings, and Magnolia cakes were all part of the menu!
Check out Foraged New York on Instagram or our website for more details and to follow wild crafting ideas specifically.
We absolutely loved the design of the Indian Ladder Farms’ Memorial Day float. Make sure you stop by on July 10th for the Ritz Carlton Cassette Release Party!
Our Farm Share pick up program is going very smoothly. Every Week we deliver a package of farmer’s choice mushrooms to Sound House Records at 52 King Street in Troy. It is one of the best spots in Troy for New and already-been-played records and stereo equipment and the owners are an absolute blast! Check them out!

One of our favorite young Myco-friends, Tamada, was selected to present at the Saratoga Springs High School Science Research Symposium. She crafted an amazing display around presenting fresh growing mushrooms! She is certainly a promising future mycologist!
A Pioppino for Santino is making the rounds as a Story Walk Book up in the hill towns. It visited the Emma Treadwell Visitor’s center, is in Knox at the Town Park through June, then will end its tour at the Berne Town Park through July and August. The Mushwagen finally made the journey to Indian Ladder to its new home!
We planted a few outdoor tubs of Almond Agaricus (Agaricus subrufescens) to add a little terrestrial variety to our offerings.
The Shroom Patch is coming together very nicely! Located in the Pines picnic area, this outdoor space will be accessible to all of Indian Ladder Farms’ guests. We will be putting up details about each of the mushrooms growing there.
The Forest Plot is our private log yard where we’ll have a collection of log grown outdoor mushrooms like Chicken of the Woods, Hen of the Woods, Nameko, and Shiitake.
As always, find us Wednesdays at the Helderberg Mountain Brewing Company Tasting Room on Main Street in East Berne from 5pm – 6:30pm (ish)
Amy and Avery installed a mushroom display case at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library. It will be up through the end of June! Go take a look and borrow a new book!
Mushroom Hunting in May! We got into the forest with so many fungi friends during Foraged and the following weeks and found morels, dryads, golden oysters, and so many other mushrooms!
PSILOCYBIN CORNER
We met in person (and on zoom) for the first time since leaving our home in Lansingburgh. The Corner Spore at the Yellow Rock Cafe is a great spot to gather and discuss and plan! The Indian Ladder Farms Farm Store will be open until 7:30 for coffee and snacks during future meetings once we get a crowd showing up again.
We were very disappointed to find that the hearing for the New York State assembly Health Committee had been postponed until the fall. The delay and complexity in passing the NYS budget pushed this out a bit. In the meantime we turned our attention to planning some actions in NYC. We’ll continue the planning sessions in June and talk about reintroducing guest speakers to our meeting format.
